Recently we saw Thurrock’s Prince’s Trust Team 20 on their residential – a 5-day trip with participants living together, doing outdoor activities, and working on their communication, leadership and team building skills. Keep scrolling for more info, plus some photos and videos.
The Team Programme by Prince’s Trust is a free 12 week course for 16 to 25 year olds who are not in employment, education or training. The focus of the programme is personal development, boosting confidence, and improving team work and employability skills.
The main aspects of the course include the residential, numerous fundraising events to raise money for a community project, a 2-week work experience placement, and a final presentation where, upon completing the programme, team members are awarded a recognised ‘Prince’s Trust Level 1 or 2 certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills’.
The base for the Team Programme is the Thurrock Adult Community College, but for Team 20’s second week, they travelled to Norfolk Lakes Activity Centre.
Day 1 involved caving and survival skills, such as lighting fires and building shelters.
Day 2 combined both the Southend and Thurrock Prince’s Trust teams doing canoeing, archery, crate stacking and problem solving challenges.
Day 3 included air rifle shooting, raft building, high ropes, an obstacle course and a blind trail.
Day 4 there was kayaking, paddle boarding, low ropes and more high ropes.
Day 5 concluded the week with the climbing wall, team games and departure back to Grays.
Mitchell, one of the members on Team 20, said of the residential trip: “I’ve had a pretty great week, making loads of friends and doing all of the activities. The kayaking was really fun surprisingly; I thought I’d be terrible at it and fall in!”
