Coronavirus (COVID-19) – registering a birth

Thurrock Register Office is open for pre-booked appointments only. You must not come to the Register Office if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). All visitors must follow safety requests from staff.

From 31 October 2021, you need to have registered your child's birth if you wish to receive Child Benefit. Go to GOV.UK: Child Benefit for information on making a claim.

Fees and charges are as follows.

Birth certificates

You can order a certificate online.

Naming ceremonies

The following fees apply:

  • a £100 non-refundable deposit is required when booking a ceremony at any approved premise
  • a £46 non-refundable deposit is required when booking a ceremony at the register office
  • a £35 admin fee is payable if the date or time of any ceremony is changed for any reason

Changes to initial registration

The following fees apply:

  • £40 – change of forename added within 12 months of birth registration
  • £75 – consideration by the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar of a correction
  • £90 – consideration by the Registrar General of a correction

Fees are payable to the Registrar or Superintendent Registrar.
