Birth, marriage, civil partnership and death certificates

You can order new certificates and copies of certificates held by Thurrock Register Office.

Certificates include:

Basildon Hospital births

We do not hold any records for any births at Basildon Hospital – previously part of Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – and we cannot provide new or historic certificates for people born there.

For copies of birth certificates for births at Basildon Hospital, go to Essex Record Office: certificate copies.

Certificates you can order

You can order copies of certificates from 1837 to the present day for persons in Aveley, parts of Bulphan, Chadwell St Mary, Chafford Hundred, Corringham, Coryton, East Tilbury, Fobbing, Grays, Linford, Little Thurrock, Mucking, North Stifford, Orsett, Orsett Heath, Purfleet, South Ockendon, South Stifford, Stanford-le-Hope, Stifford Clays, Tilbury, West Thurrock and West Tilbury.

You can also order copies of birth and death certificates from 1 July 1948 to 30 September 1961 for persons in Canvey Island, Hadleigh, South Benfleet and Thundersley.

We only provide 'standard' certificates, which have all the information that most authorities need for proof of registration. We do not provide 'short' versions of certificates.

How to order a certificate

To order a certificate, send your request to Thurrock Register Office using the form below, including:

  • your name, phone number and postal address
  • the type of certificate you would like to order – birth, marriage, civil partnership or death
  • details of the certificate

You can pay for your order using a credit or debit card – check our current birth certificate charges, marriage and civil partnership certificate charges and death certificate charges. We will contact you to arrangement payment after we receive your request. You should not include your payment card details on the form.

Certificates can be provided within 15 working days, plus delivery time, or you can choose a 24-hour service. If you order before 3pm, the 24-hour service allows you to collect the certificate from Thurrock Register Office after the same time on the next working day, or we can post it you. If you order after 3pm, you must add an extra day for the 24-hour service.

Working days are Monday to Friday, except for UK bank holidays.
