In 2014, we were awarded £5 million to improve cycle routes across Thurrock by 2019.
The map below shows current local cycle routes.
Planning for improvements
We want to make it easier and safer to get around Thurrock by bike. We will join-up our local cycle routes so cycling for work or leisure becomes an attractive alternative to using the car.
In 2015, we carried out a full check of the borough's cycle network to find ways we could make it better. Following this work, we proposed ideas for creating or improving more than 35km of cycle routes, including 46 new links and facilities.
Between 9 May and 6 June 2016, we asked for comments on our plans to improve the local cycle network – read about the consultation at have my say: cycle plans. The documents below give an overview and details of these plans:
What we're doing
Our improvement work is to be carried out in 3 parts:
- part 1 designs were completed in February 2017 and will be built by Fox Construction
- part 2 designs are near completion at the end of 2017 and will be built by Henderson and Taylor
- part 3 design work was started and the majority of all 3 parts had been completed by the end of March 2019
