Adoption statistics

Publication date:
Tuesday 18 July 2023

I write to submit a request under the Freedom of Information Act for the following information regarding adoptions arranged by the council, or by any companies or agencies working on behalf of or in partnership with the council.

In the most recent annual recording period for which data is available:

the total number of children adopted by couples of the opposite sex, subcategorized by the sex of the child adopted;

the total number of children adopted by same-sex male couples, subcategorized by the sex of the child adopted;

the total number of children adopted by same-sex female couples, subcategorized by the sex of the child adopted.

For example, the data that I am requesting might look as follows:

Adopters_________________Male children adopted_______Female children adopted

Opposite-sex couples_______40________________________40

Same-sex male couples_____10________________________10

Same-sex female couples____6________________________6

Number of male children

Number of female children

Opposite sex couple

Same sex male couple

Same sex female couple

I have only completed this for Thurrock children (14 adopted last year). We had our own adopters also adopt non-Thurrock children not included in this data.
