Street works licence application

About this form

Under Section 50 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, a licence is needed to lay new or maintain existing apparatus in the public highway. Anyone wishing to carry out roadwork excavations in the highway must apply for and be granted a Section 50 street works licence before work starts. The 'highway' includes the carriageway, footway and verge.

This form will ask you to upload the following documents:

  • a plan showing the proposed route of the apparatus
  • proof of New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) accreditation
  • a copy of your insurance certificate
