Motability car and scooter scheme

Overview

The Motability Scheme helps disabled people get out and about by providing cars, powered wheelchairs and scooters that are safe, reliable and affordable. The scheme is overseen by the Motability Charity.

Cars

Motability can help you lease a car if you get either:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

You can also apply for a car on behalf of a child aged 3 or over. The child must be entitled to the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance.

Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Motability Scheme.

Powered wheelchairs or scooters

Motability offers a hire scheme for powered wheelchairs or scooters, including insurance and routine servicing.

If money is a problem, Motability may be able to provide financial help.
