Leader visits new Trading Standards DP World depot

Thurrock Council leader, Cllr Rob Gledhill, joined members of the Trading Standards team at their new DP World depot on Monday 8 August to see the team in action helping to prevent dangerous goods from entering the country.

National Highways and Transport Survey

11 August 2022
Residents are being asked for their views on Thurrock's highways and transport services – from the condition of roads and footpaths, to the quality of cycling facilities.
Their answers will be compared with the views of other members of the public across England and Scotland, thanks to the National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction survey.
Thurrock Council is one of 111 local authorities to sign-up to a standardised survey that has been sent to a minimum random sample of at least 3,300 of the borough's residents.

Free BeeZee Bodies programme supports healthy habits

Families across Thurrock can take healthy steps to improve their lifestyle and stay fitter for longer by joining the award-winning BeeZee Bodies programme.
The free 12-week programme, launching this September, provides access to simple eating advice and fun interactive sessions. It will help families take simple steps toward a healthier lifestyle now, which in turn can help prevent health issues later in life.

Library bitesize events to help residents online

Inspire Youth Hub Careers Advisers offer support and help for young people, allowing them to discover a world of exciting careers, training and apprenticeship opportunities.
Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "Our Careers Advisers provide an extremely helpful, free, friendly service that can help those who are a little unsure of what to do next after receiving their GCSE or A Level results later this month.

Waste changes to take place in September 2023

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Cabinet Member for Environment, outlined at the Full Council meeting on Wednesday (27 July) that plans to introduce weekly food waste collections and other improvements to household waste services to drive up recycling, have been put on hold until 2023.

Leader joins teams on anti-social behaviour patrol

Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr Rob Gledhill, joined members of the Housing Anti-social Behaviour Team and Environmental Enforcement officers as they patrolled known hot-spots on Wednesday 20 July.
Cllr Gledhill, who is also Cabinet member for Public Protection and Anti-social Behaviour, said: "The team regularly patrol areas that residents and our officers report to us as known trouble spots. I joined them on Wednesday as part of Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week.

Ceremony blesses cemetery section for Nepalese Gurkha community

Representatives of different faiths have taken part in a private blessing as Thurrock Council takes steps to provide a dedicated section within West Thurrock Cemetery for the Nepalese Gurkha community.
On Friday 22 July, Cllr James Halden, Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Qaisar Abbas, Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities, and Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Cabinet Member for Environment, were joined by Man Bahadur Rai, president of the Thurrock Nepalese (Gurkha) (TNG) Community, and 40 of the TNG Community, including executive members and Gurkha veterans.

Consultation launch for Broxburn Drive development plans

Proposals to build new affordable council homes with wider landscaping improvements and natural play running through and around the existing environment in South Ockendon are being explored in a consultation launched today (Wednesday 20 July).
Thurrock Council is seeking your views on proposals for Broxburn Drive as it continues to help meet the affordable housing needs of people in the borough. The new proposals include building 33 new apartments ranging from 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom properties within 6 new buildings.

Strategy recognises vital link between housing and health

Thurrock Council has adopted a new housing strategy that recognises that a safe and secure home is a vital bedrock to good health and well-being.
Cllr Spillman, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "This innovative strategy focuses on making sure that our residents have access to safe, secure, stable, warm, and affordable homes and recognises that as a solid foundation from which they can protect their health and well-being.
