Ordering and renewing library items

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – libraries

All libraries are closed until further notice. You can access newspapers and magazines and e-books and e-audio online.

Return dates for loaned items have been extended until the end of July so you don't need to renew. All fines for overdue items will be waived. You cannot reserve or return books at present – please keep hold of your borrowed items and do not put them in library book drops or letterboxes.

Books, music, films and more

It's free for you to order books, DVDs or CDs online and collect them from any Thurrock or Essex County Council library.

All you need to do is:

  • search the library catalogue for the title you want to borrow
  • when you've found it, click on the item to show further details
  • select ‘Reserve this item’ – you can enter your library card number and PIN code
  • choose which library you'd like to collect the item from

Search the library catalogue

When the item arrives at the library you will receive a call or text message. If you do not have a phone we can send you a letter.

We keep the items at the library for 10 days so you have time to collect.

Loan reminders

If you’ve given us your email address, we will send you a reminder 2 days before your loaned items are due to be renewed or returned.

You can add or update your email address in your library membership when you login to the online catalogue – when you login, select 'Personal information' and 'Update your details'. Our staff can help with this on your next visit to a library.

Electronic items – e-books and e-audio

e-books and e-audio are also available online for you to download.

Jigsaws are available to borrow free of charge from Grays and Tilbury libraries.

If you have a jigsaw that is complete and in good condition – box and pieces – you can donate it any Thurrock library for the enjoyment of other library users.
