The government is proposing to change the way people in England pay for social care.
The main changes proposed are:
- no-one will have to pay more than a total of £86,000 for their personal care costs
- you may be able to get financial support to meet your eligible care costs if you have less than £100,000 in savings and assets
- if you arrange your own care privately, you can ask us to make arrangements for you and provide you with a choice of better value care – although this is a change across England as a whole, it's a service we already offer in Thurrock
The reason for these changes is to make sure people no longer face unpredictable or unlimited care costs in their lifetime.
These changes have not yet taken place and you do not have to do anything now.
The changes are expected to take place from October 2023.
