We are responsible for 576km of roads, along with their footways, gullies, safety barriers, pedestrian guardrails, traffic signs, street nameplates, road markings and road studs.
Weather conditions are monitored continually during the winter months. When necessary, gritting and snow clearing takes place on just under 300km of the road network.
A13 roadworks are underway to widen the road from 2 to 3 lanes in both directions between the A128 (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 (The Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope).
We are responsible for the maintenance, repair and cleaning of most roads in Thurrock, including footways. We are not responsible for:
- private roads – these are the responsibility of their residents
- National Highways roads
You should contact National Highways (formerly 'Highways England') for matters concerning:
- A13 – from M25 junction 30 to the Tilbury slip road and to the A1089
- A1089 Dock Approach Road, Tilbury – from the A13 to Asda roundabout
- St Andrew's Road, Tilbury – from Asda roundabout to Tilbury Dock gate
All roads and footways are routinely inspected at set frequencies depending on the importance and usage of the route. There are 3 priority levels for the repair of defects, ranging between 72 hours and 3 months depending upon the nature and severity of the defect.
We also carry out an annual road condition assessment to prioritise major maintenance schemes.
