Children's Summer Reading Challenge

Reading throughout the summer is very important for children's development – and it's fun!

Summer Reading Challenge 2022

The 2022 science-themed Summer Reading Challenge, 'Gadgeteers', has ended. We are now checking find out how many children and young people took part and which school will win the special Summer Reading Challenge school shield with the school's name engraved upon it.

It looks like 2022 had a high number of participants, so thank you to everyone who got involved – we hope you enjoyed it. We would welcome any comments on this year's Summer Reading Challenge from parents and carers in Thurrock. Please send comments to the email address below.

Summer Reading Challenge certificates were printed and given directly to children in the library when they had read 6 books or more. This means children received both their medal and certificate at the same time, rather than waiting until the autumn to receive their certificate at school.

Summer Reading Challenge school shield

Our Summer Reading Challenge school shield is awarded to the school that has the most students finishing the challenge in comparison to the number of students who took part.

For a chance to have your school's name engraved on the shield, ask your friends to take part and complete the annual Summer Reading Challenge. Every school in Thurrock, whether big or small, has an equal chance to have its name put on the shield and keep it for the year.
